And while winds gusting in excess of 20mph provided a challenge for events coordinators, it did not hinder the competitiveness of the excellent bands in attendance.

Last year’s Grand Champion and bearers of The Legacy of Champions 2015 Defender’s Shield, the Whitewater Wildcat Marching Band of Whitewater High School, Fayetteville, GA, will be back to try and reclaim the Legacy Sword and ensure the beginning of a legacy of their own. The competition is sure to be intense so you don’t want to miss any of the 16 performances slated to take place.

Our venue, historic Grisham Stadium, comfortably seats 8,000, and offers a variety of delicious concessions and relevant vendors to make your visit to the Trojan Nation a truly enjoyable one. We also have plenty of paid, free, and accessibility parking, all within the confines of our spacious campus. Gates will open at 10:30am with our first performance taking place at 1:30pm. Our unforgettable awards ceremony will take place at 9:00pm.

Very few people get the chance to witness history as it is being made, but this Saturday, October 8th, 2016 at Grisham Stadium, you’ll have that very opportunity. Don’t miss it… Join us as the Legacy Continues!

Adding to The Legacy

Preparations for this year’s Legacy of Champions are well underway. We are working hard to ensure another grand event this year as we build upon our success from last year and incorporate new elements that will add to the Legacy.

The 2015 Defender's Shield.

The 2015 Defender’s Shield.

As an example, this year we will present a Defender’s Shield trophy for the first time to the reigning Grand Champions, the Whitewater Wildcat Marching Band of Whitewater High School, Fayetteville, GA. The Defender’s Shield is another custom designed trophy that will be presented to the previous Grand Champions as the Trojan Nation reclaims the Legacy Sword trophy, placing it back up for grabs in this year’s competition. The Defender’s Shield will be the Grand Champions permanent trophy to keep and inspire their students and to commemorate their major accomplishment.

July was a busy month in the life of the Defender’s Shield as the commissioned artist completed the pouring process, the last step before it was finished and prepared for presentation. It was another wonderful and fulfilling experience as we witnessed another piece of our vision and another piece of the Legacy come to life.  (click on the pictures below for a larger view)

We are extremely proud of both of our custom trophies, as well as our equally remarkable accompanying trophies and medals that we award each year. We are also honored by the participation of so many wonderful band programs in our event and hope that if you haven’t signed up already, that you will do so soon. We can promise you an experience like no other as we strive to set the gold standard for band competitions. Complete your 2016 Entry Form now!

The Legacy Continues…

2016_Postcard

This October 8th the Legacy continues at historic Grisham Stadium as the second edition of the premier marching band competition, the Legacy of Champions returns. Hosted by the Carrollton High School Band Program and Carrollton High School Band Boosters, the Legacy of Champions strives to set the gold standard for marching band competitions.

Last year’s inaugural running was a huge success that showcased the commitment to excellence held by the Carrollton City School System, the Carrollton Trojan Band Program, and the Carrollton community. Thousands of students, parents, and supporters were on hand to witness the beginning of the legacy as Whitewater High School of Fayetteville, GA became our first Grand Champion and took home the one-of-a-kind Legacy Sword Grand Championship Trophy!

As we begin our preparations now to make this year’s competition even better than last year’s, we can’t help but wonder… whose next? Will Whitewater return and successfully defend their Grand Champion title or is there another band out there prepared to claim the Legacy Sword and take their place among legends.

Mark your calendars now and get ready… The Legacy Continues October 8th, 2016!

Introducing The Legacy Sword Trophy

_SB_8459(1)With our inaugural running of the Legacy of Champions now just days away, we wanted to take a moment to introduce our Grand Championship trophy, the Legacy Sword Trophy.

This amazing, massive bronze trophy was designed and created by University of West Georgia alumnus, Daniel McMillan, exclusively for the Carrollton High School Band Boosters and the Legacy of Champions Marching Band Competition. It features his rendition of the legendary Sword of Troy and a traditional Greek shield that represents the honor and valor that are displayed every time one of our Trojan teams takes the field in competition.

This one-of-a-kind traveling trophy will be presented annually to the best overall judged band at our competition to be displayed proudly in their band room until the following summer when it will be reclaimed by the Trojan Nation and placed back in the arena to await its next victor. The name of the previous year’s winner will be added to an engraved plaque on the trophy’s base annually as a testimony of each Grand Champion’s accomplishment. Each defending Grand Champion will then be presented an equally symbolic and impressive commemorative “Defending Grand Champion Shield” to keep and inspire their students as they hopefully return to the Legacy of Champions to defend their title and try to reclaim the Legacy Sword!

_SB_8464(1)When we started this competition we wanted it to be something special, representing the excellence of our school system and the passion we have for music and our marching band. The Legacy Sword is the culmination and embodiment of those qualities and we hope it will become one of the most coveted marching band trophies in the state.

We extend a hearty invitation to everyone to join us this Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Historic Grisham Stadium, from 3pm until 10pm. Not only will you be treated to a day of great music, concessions, and vendors, but you will also be afforded the opportunity to witness the beginning of the legacy as we present the Legacy Sword to our very first Grand Champion!

Thank you to our Legacy Sword Trophy co-sponsors; Southwire and Louis E. Kuntz, CPA., PC
